Flat front, belt loops, slash pockets and a straight leg that breaks once over the shoe, the chino with nothing added to it, which is exactly why it is the one that gets worn. Sand sits between beige and khaki, warm enough to carry brown leather and quiet enough to disappear under any shirt. Photographed here with brown loafers.

The chino began as hard-wearing cotton twill issued to soldiers early in the last century, and came home as the trouser men actually wore every day. This one keeps that plainness on purpose: flat front, slash pockets and a straight leg that breaks once over the shoe.
